چکیده

The EPRCA (Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm) is a leading congestion control protocol for Available Bit Rate (ABR) service in ATM networks. This paper shows that this protocol is only marginally stable: once a queue is congested, then its queue size will eventually decrease. However, if a queue is not congested, its queue size can actually increase and a congestion can be self-induced, or be passed on from a neighboring link. The formulation uses a sampled continuous-time average case partially asynchronous model. The network topology considered in this paper is general.

Stability Analysis of Intelligent Marking EPRCA for ABR Congestion

The EPRCA (Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm) is a leading congestion control protocol for Available Bit Rate (ABR) service in ATM networks. Even though the EPRCA has been adopted by the ATM forum as the standard for ABR congestion control, we show that this protocol is only marginally stable. The stability analysis presented in this paper does not consider interactions among network...

Effective Control of Traffic Flow in ATM Networks Using Fuzzy Explicit Rate Marking. (FERM)

In this paper, we describe the fuzzy explicit rate marking (FERM) traffic flow control algorithm for a class of best effort service, known as available bit rate (ABR), proposed by the ATM Forum. FERM is an explicit rate marking scheme in which an explicit rate is calculated at the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch and sent back to the ABR traffic sources encapsulated within resource manag...

A Simulation Study of Using ER Feedback Control to Transport Compressed Video over ATM Networks

Transporting video over asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks has been an active area of research. The Variable Bit rate (VBR) service in ATM networks is primarily designed and used for real time application like compressed voice and video. Due to compressed video is inherently bursty, the bandwidth could not be efficiently utilized. The explicit rate (ER) flow control designed for Availabl...

Max-Min Rate Control Algorithm for Available Bit Rate Service in ATM Networks

The deenition of Available Bit Rate (ABR) service has been the focus of the recent activities of the ATM Forum. The Forum has adopted rate-based schemes as the standard for congestion control of ABR services, and has accepted Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm (EPRCA) as the recommended algorithm for the switch behavior. In this paper, we propose a new binary control algorithm, called...

SP - EPRCA : an ATM Rate Based Congestion Control

This report presents a feedback control algorithm for ATM congestion control in which ABR source rates are adjusted according to VC queue levels at intermediate nodes along the path. The goal is to fully and promptly utilize the available bandwidth left by QOS constrained traac (CBR+VBR) for transmitting the less QOS stringent ABR traac, without incurring in queue overrow and consequently cell ...
